MY UNFORGETTABLE SUMMER ACTIVITY

May 25 was the first review for the UPCAT conducted by the UP Diliman students in our school. The night after the review, I was reviewing my notes and suddenly someone texted me. I didn’t expect a message from our outgoing SSG President saying, ‘Hoy, kayat mo mapan jay Subic?(You want to go to Subic?)’.

It seems it is just a click when that night happened. Camp Blog is worth remembering and this would be my unforgettable experience throughout my summer vacation. This 5 day seminar is really a long span of time full of tiring and stressful works yet the reality went beyond my expectations. I’ll never forget the Travelers Hotel who welcomed us luxuriously. Our room which is over whelming for its coldness yet it is ironic because I felt warm welcomed making me at home. I loved the undying iced tea and unending noodle and pasta foods that were served in the first few days. Of course, I’ll keep in my heart the Subic Park Hotel for providing us strong signal of wireless fidelity though a space shortage was encountered. Thank you to Sir Kikiam (Sir Giron) for the caramel cappuccino treat and we still hoping for its sequel.

Those Aetas I will never forget are worth preserving for they are contributing a lot in our economic health and that tribe will be the key to the past. That hiking experience made me even more in loved with photography.

On behalf of Ilocos Sur National High School headed by our Pricipal, Dr. Giovanni V. Velasco, I would like to express our warmest appreciation for choosing us among one thousand ischool-accredited schools.

What I learned from the multimedia modules and the fieldwork?

Photography is not new to me. Nevertheless, before I have not yet read the modules about this topic, there were lot of things I must know to improve my shooting skill.

During this camp blog, they gave modules for us to study. One of these is the Multimedia modules (Photography and Video documentation) which gave a lot of information and help me improve as an amatuer photographer. I learned how to identify the fundamental of photojournalism theory and practices. With this, I have enhanced my shooting skill applying the key technical and artistic techniques. Using various approaches and strategies on a given theme, I can already make my own photo stories.

Many of us thought that captioning is an easy job but actually, captioning is more difficult than capturing. Here, you have the responsibility to hold hence you must write accurately and in complete detail.

In the fieldwork, it is challenging to take pictures because there are unusual things we least expected to happen in a common setting. Indigenious people are not ordinary people. They have contributed most of the information on how our ancestors lived inspite of lower evulotion of intelligence. Through photography and video documentation, it is our chance to preserve their cultures and traditions and to campaign for the integrity of indigenious people.

What I learned from the lecture on online newspaper?

Although we were not able to attend the lecture on online newspaper, through the short discussion and critiquing of outputs, I learned about how to write effectively and can be understood by all readers. Writing aims to share knowledge and information. It is not to advertise how wide your vocabularies are. It must be direct to the point and no other flowery words and jargons are added. We must accept the fact that not all people know all the things we have known. Writing must be kept short and simple. Readers must not have their dictionaries beside them just to understand what your article is saying.

In planning for online newspaper, we must know what the objectives are. We must also know what are the things we should consider to have it successfully. Secondly, we must not be too ambitious especially we are all beginners. Utilize fist all what we have and do not aim to beat the professionals.

What I learned from the self study modules?

This morning, although blogging is not new to me, I have lots of information learnt from the modules. I learnt the concepts of blogging, understand its iportance and most of all, learnt how to blog. I also knew the benefits of blogging to students. Learning would not just happen within the four walls of the classroom, blogging can also be. Here, creativity and writing skill can be developed by continoues posting. These are the other things I learnt from the modules:

*blog terminology
*deciding on subject

*determining your readers

*what is a blog

*what shall be the content of your blog

*who blogs and why do they blog

Through the Online Writing Module, I learnt the similarities and differences of online writing and traditional writing. In writing, we must bear in mind its Inverted Pyramid Stracture. And in Online research module.

Why I am writing?

I write because it is one way to express my ideas and opinions. Through writing, I defined ‘freedom of expression’. For me, sometimes, it is hard to verbalize my thoughts, so I prefer writing because I find myself free from direct criticism. Writing makes me  more confident from what I am doing than speaking. I can go over what I’m writing to check and make it better to read. While when I talk in front of people, I cannot escape from committing mistakes, thus we can never correct them unlike in writing.

About what am I writing?

I love writing about what is happening in our society. I usually tackle topics about the hot issues in the government. I watch and after all, I give my insights. That is why I learned to love editorial writing, nevertheless, I am more in loved with sports writing (Filipino). I enjoyed writing especially when I use sports terms and lingoes. I make my article imaginable and exciting for the readers.

To whom am I writing?

I am writing for all the people who inspired me and helped me to enhance my skill in this field. I want them to be proud of me as their student of their own. I also want to show them that the sweats and salivas they’ve given off to help improve my writing are not useless. I also write for people who look for trivia and unusual things.

Year 2010 brought morals and memories that made my feelings sparked and conquered my emotions, the feelings that made me laugh, smile, lour and cry. As the year-end approaches, there are things and person whom we don’t expect to come and drive up into our lives. And they might be the reason why endings are worth reminiscing.

Last years’ experiences did substantial things of mine and therefore be considered as one of my most unforgettable year that happened out of my fifteen years of existence. It’s been sorrowful before but by realizing the beauty of 2010 open my mind and move on for the better. I look forward on to those whom I think it will last. I reflected after it and think of something different on how I’ll my vacation and would satisfy me in the end.

What I planned and bear in mind is to be in school with friends especially my fourth year friends because it may be the last time for me to share myself with them. I will never forget the time when we went to all departments and sing Christmas songs for us to have money. We gained more or less one thousand pesos and for that we went to Mang Inasal and spent the money for food trips. For me, this is a great way to spend a vacation for some things and because of this, I never expected that some people would come and be a part of my life. Every day, I felt the feeling of being sick because of them but it’ll be vanished after they asked me to go out and have stroll. Sometimes it wouldn’t satisfy me for I didn’t seen around the person who I’d like to go and talk with but in the end, happiness reigned into my heart.

My vacation went boring when they ask me to have a review for some reasons like Math Festival. It wouldn’t make me feel I’m in a vacation rather it seems classes resumed, nevertheless I enjoyed the last part of our review because I have learnt a lot and we ate our lunch in Ma’am Palacpac’s house.

Satisfaction is what my vacation reconciled in me. Thank you 2010, you made me better.
